CBS has canceled the Morris Chestnut-led mystery drama series Watson after two seasons and the comedy series DMV after just one season.
The news came down on Friday as the show firms up its 2026-27 schedule. Watson‘s season finale, which will now be its series finale, will air on May 3, while DMV‘s will be on May 11.
Why were ‘Watson’ and ‘DMV’ canceled?
The cancellations aren’t surprising, as the shows weren’t renewed when CBS made the bulk of its renewals, and they also have some of the network’s lowest-rated shows as far as viewership. Watson also had to compete against the already renewed, new drama series, Marshals and CIA.
What were both ‘Watson’ and ‘DMV’ about?
Watson followed Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, and per its description, “While Watson’s team of ‘doc-tectives’ may have defeated Moriarty last season, they remain determined in season two in their mission to investigate and treat the world’s most rare diseases for their clinic’s patients. With his eyes fixed on the future, Watson faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past – one that lies hidden within his own body.” Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Inga Schlingmann and Rochelle Aytes also starred.
DMV is described as “a single-camera comedy set in the place everyone dreads going most – the Department of Motor Vehicles – where employees are making minimum wage dealing with customers who are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Working at the East Hollywood DMV office are: Colette (Harriet Dyer), a driving examiner with a big heart and bad boundaries; Gregg (Tim Meadows), a misanthropic former English teacher; Vic (Tony Cavalero), a former bouncer who loves putting difficult drivers in their places; Barbara (Molly Kearney), a newly promoted manager who tries hard but often misses the mark; Noa (Alex Tarrant), a charming surfer who seems destined for much greater things; and Ceci (Gigi Zumbado), a scrappy photographer who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Fortunately, this quirky crew has each other to navigate the twists and turns of the DMV together.”
Both series were produced by CBS Studios.
