A new report from The Washington Post says Vice President JD Vance is facing increasing scrutiny from fellow Republicans. According to the newspaper, some GOP officials are questioning Vance’s prospects of winning the presidency in 2028.

Why are Republicans taking issue with JD Vance?

Vance’s negotiations with Iran are part of the reason he is facing criticism from some Republicans, The Washington Post reported. The vice president is specifically facing criticism for failing to secure a ceasefire deal and for opposing some of President Donald Trump’s plans, according to the report. Some Republicans are also reportedly comparing Vance to former President Barack Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders as frustrations with his strategy grow.

However, sources close to Vance told The Washington Post the criticism is coming from opponents who are focused on preventing him from winning the 2028 presidential election.

“Loud Washington establishment voices form an online cacophony,” conservative commentator Steve Cortes told the Post. “But they do not remotely represent the consensus views of Republican voters.”

Vance also faced criticism in June after speaking out against Israel’s opposition to the U.S.-Iran memorandum. Earlier this month, Vance appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast and said paid influencers are targeting him in “dishonest ways.”

“You know, my response to that is, ‘Well, go to hell,’” Vance said to Rogan. “I’m going to do what I have to do for the American people. I represent Americans first, and that’s the way that I’ve tried to do this job.”
